Music therapy not only has scientifically proven health benefits it’s also a way for our residents to relax and enjoy some of their favourite songs from over the decades. It reduces anxiety and stress, improves healing, reduces depression and other symptoms within the elderly, encouraging self expression and communication. Many of our residents at Doddington Lodge find music to be a way of connecting to their past, where certain songs take them back to a hot summer in Italy or a cold winters night sat by the fire, that is why we believe introducing music therapy to the lives of our residents will create happiness, joy and some amazing health benefits.
Whilst caring for dementia patients we have found music therapy to impact their lives dramatically, it is scientifically proven that music therapy can help to manage Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease as well as many other complaints and psychological disorders including Schizophrenia. Introducing music therapy to Doddington Lodge promotes relaxation and stress-relieving properties that have a positive effect on the mental and physical health of our residents.
Our daily activities at Doddington Lodge include games and crafts that we believe create positivity and happiness throughout our home, music is a big part of our daily routine. Our goal through music therapy is to help stimulate communication skills, social skills and sensory skills where this may be difficult in everyday life for our residents. It is a fun, enjoyable, effective method that our residents and staff throughout the home love.
